About Birkitt Dental

Celebrating 60 Years of Exceptional Dental Care

Dr. Glenn Birkitt started Birkitt Dental in 1964 after graduating from the West Virginia University School of Dentistry. Some of the children Dr. Glenn treated in his early career are still coming to the practice today where the youngest of Glenn’s five children, Dr. Cary Birkitt, has been continuing his father’s legacy of personal service, integrity, and technical excellence since he joined the practice in 2007.

Our Founder,
Dr. Glenn Birkitt

Glenn Birkitt was born in Berkely Springs, WV. He attended Shepherd University in Sherpherdstown, WV, where he met his future wife, Jo Ann Didawick, who was studying at WVU. The couple were married on January 28, 1956. Originally, Glenn wanted to be a pharmacist but discovered that just wasn’t the right fit. So, he returned to WVU to attend the dental school there. Upon graduating in 1964, Dr. Glenn Birkitt opened Birkitt Dental in the historic Lynch-Tebbs House at 18 Loudoun St SE in Leesburg, where Birkitt Dental continues to operate today. Dr. Glenn’s patients remember him first and foremost as a kind and gentle man.
In his free time, Dr. Glenn was an avid golfer and enjoyed tinkering with cars. He was also a rather busy man, raising a large and boisterous family. He passed on July 14, 2023.

Meet Dr. Cary

Cary Birkitt graduated from Loudoun County High School with a lifelong love of art and music. After a decades-long stint as a technician at a dental lab, he decided to follow in his Dad’s footsteps and attended the University of Tennessee HSC College of Dentistry. Cary graduated in 2007 and moved back to his hometown to join his father at Birkitt Dental. The transition between father and son was remarkably smooth. Today, Birkitt Dental continues to operate as a small, family-owned, hometown dental practice that focuses on helping each and every patient feel welcome and cared for. Dr. Cary loves to educate his patients, young and old alike, about dental care and its impact on overall health. He finds personal satisfaction in crafting beautiful and healthy smiles.

During off-hours, Dr. Cary enjoys spending time with Judi, his wife of 26 years, and his son, Hunter. They have a dog named Argos and a fish named Barry. A guitarist and vocalist, Dr. Cary founded Lost Locals, a classic rock cover band that plays at breweries and restaurants throughout the area. And he definitely picked up the car bug from his Dad while working side-by-side in the garage throughout his childhood.

Dr. Cary has a deep love for his hometown of Leesburg. He supports the artist community here and has currently stepped up as President of the town’s Lions Club, which provides children with free hearing and eyesight exams and provides free glasses or hearing aids when needed.

Today, Birkitt Dental is honoring Dr. Glenn Birkitt’s legacy and marking 60 years of comprehensive and gentle service from the very same office where Glenn first started his practice back in 1964.
